Here we go again...

Back, back to the west coast.
 Back to our home.
Back to our friends and family.

But first we must traverse this country.

Here are some packing photos, from yesterday.

Mystery Bag

The Mystery Bag is another Sterrognostic activity for the young child.  HERE is a full description of the activity.  The objects are items that can be identified by touch alone.  I've collected them in several locations. The bag itself I made.  I made three actually.

Sorting

This is an activity for children three and a half to four years old.  This activity is designed to be used with a blindfold and refines the stereopnostic sense. HERE is a complete description of how the activity works. I collected the tray and bowls from various locations.  Tray from Home Goods and the bowls from World Market.  The beads used for sorting are three different shapes  but otherwise feel and look the same.  While blindfolded the child sorts these beads into bowls according to their shape.

what I've been up to

042

I've put together an activity for children three to three and a half years.

The idea is to teach them how to measure flour with a measuring cup.

Building up my stash

I survived the tornado warning and thunder storm yesterday.
Though I did get soaking wet from the walk to the car.

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

This is how we do it.

Tuesday.

Tomorrow is Wednesday (my favorite day of the week) and it's going to be the fourth of July.  So a day off with pay in the middle of the week.  I cannot say no to that.

Since, both Alex and I worked today I just did a little packing/sorting.

And of course Zoey helped.

Circle Quilts

My original idea for my circle quilt struck me as too much for me to handle currently, with the big move and everything.  So I decided to make two smaller quilts with the materials that I had laying around.

Today, After breakfast with Steph from Hope Sewing is Genetic, I laundered and pressed all the pieces that still needed that.

Then, I cut the backing, fronts, and batting to fit the dimensions I decided on.

Then, I laid out the circles and pinned them to one of the quilts.

Small Blog Meet: April

Lily's Quilts
April...

 Wow.

March just flew by. I had so much planned and nothing got accomplished.

A few weeks ago I purchased these beautiful fat quarters. 445

New patterns

So, if you don't already know I love patterns.  I like looking at them, touching them, and acquiring them.  At one point I considered calling this blog some like pattern queen or pattern obsessions.  Or some sort of variation on patterns and possibly recipes.

The need to craft has hit me once again, but I just cannot seem to find the time.  There is just not enough hours in the day to work, read for my molecular anthropology class, make plans for the future, eat, spend time with my hubby, and sleep.  So, to all my sewing followers who are wondering why they are following a food blog I apologize.  When it gets crazy busy I figure I still need to eat.  I can snap quick pics of the food I'm making and presto-chango a blog post.  I will try (no promises) to have more crafty posts in the coming days, weeks, months!  Now, if you follow me for my cooking posts, don't worry a girl still has to eat!

On to the real reason for this post...

Today the mail was very good to me.  New (to me) SewLiberated patterns.  Oh, happy day!  Now if you didn't know SewLiberated is having a pattern sale to make room for new patterns to come. So go check it out.  Right now!  I love SewLiberated patterns.  They are fun and easy to use.  I look forward to making the shirt for my niece and not that I need another apron, but the apron for me.

These three patterns are on clearance. So snatch them up while you can!

Small Blog Meet: March 2012

Lily's Quilts

March...

The third month already?

Just 19 days until my birthday.

Happy 31 years to myself is just a few weeks from now.

I have been lackadaisical in my sewing and quilting of late.

But, the urge to create has struck me once again.

Here is my work so far on my newest creation.
001

This fabulous quilt is going to be done with circle appliques.

I haven't decided if I want to do all one size circles or different sizes like I've cut out above.

I am so excited.

Happy March First fellow quilters and sewing enthusiasts.

A Big Thanks to Lily's Quilts for the small blog meet.  I enjoyed it so much the last time I linked up in September.  I thought I'd try it again.

FriDate

On Fridays Steph from Hope Sewing is Genetic and I go out to dinner and spend some girl time together without our husbands.

Tonight we had a wonderful meal at a semi-fancy restaurant.
After we went to the craft store.

Now I've been on a hiatus.  Not a purpose driven one.  Just a break from sewing for the past few months.  I haven't even set foot in the craft store since December.

Today though I had a purpose.  I have a vision of a quilt that I want to make for my Mother-in-law.

Here is my spoils from our trip.

A little Wishing

Okay, so I know that my husband has already purchased my Christmas present.
I know this, but I'm still hoping to find this pattern under the tree.
Crazy!

It is glorious!

And you can purchase it here and here!

So no pressure, but if anyone who was planning on getting me something and is still looking, well I'm pointing you in this direction!

I know, crazy, but I love coats.

Love them so very much that I need an ever expanding wardrobe of them.

Well that is all.

Happy Thursday!

Apron

Finished another apron.

This is the Tea Cup Corset Apron sans the tea cup!

Here I am modeling it, sorry for my husband's poor photo taking ability.

The pockets are a little off center, oh well!
  010
And I banged my thumb putting the eyelets in.
  006
But, it makes my breasts look bigger!

 Happy Tuesday folks.

As of right now I'm done with Christmas presents.

Now it's time to wrap, wrap, wrap!

Sunday

Day 11

Oh sweet last day of my weekend, how fast you have come.

I spent the day working on my sister's Christmas present and catching up on Bones.

Having majored in Anthropology in College I feel an affinity for this show even through it is not entirely accurate.

I also my hair got a much needed trim from my dear friend Dana.

We are going to start knitting together.

I'm very excited to have a knitting partner and someone who will trim my hair. Happy Dance!

Back to my sister's present. Zoey was in a helping mood.

This is the result. Enjoy.

First she didn't want the yarn in the basket.

"One out. Time to get the other one."

"Maybe I need to sharpen my nails on the basket?"

012

"Maybe I need to get into the basket?"

015

"I win! No Yarn in the basket."

017

"Mommy, I brought you some thread."

018

"Look I make a good fabric weight. See how I keep it from blowing away."

The costume that wasn't

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. This year I wanted to make my own costume.

This was the idea.

American McGee's Alice

I purchased these two patterns.

But...

Why are my only choices a chaste child's costume.

185

Or a slutty adult.

186

I went with the chaste one. Thinking that a few changes here and there would make it more adult appropriate.

Well that is not how it turned out.

Even though I lowered the neck line by two inches. I think it needs to be lower.

Alice 2

I need to make the skirt shorter and tighten up the bodice.

So here is my Halloween costume that wasn't.

Alice 1

And this is what I ended up wearing to the party Alex and I attended last night.

140

Maybe I'll try and fix the Alice Costume or I might just start again and draft my own pattern.
