Happy Friday!

Life has a way of running away from you.  We've been in Portland for two months now.  I've been working non-stop and so has Alex I've had little time for this space and that makes me a little sad.  Though I've started instagraming.  This is a new development in my life and I'm still getting to know my new apple product!

Here are some snipets of my life.

The costume that wasn't

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. This year I wanted to make my own costume.

This was the idea.

American McGee's Alice

I purchased these two patterns.

But...

Why are my only choices a chaste child's costume.

185

Or a slutty adult.

186

I went with the chaste one. Thinking that a few changes here and there would make it more adult appropriate.

Well that is not how it turned out.

Even though I lowered the neck line by two inches. I think it needs to be lower.

Alice 2

I need to make the skirt shorter and tighten up the bodice.

So here is my Halloween costume that wasn't.

Alice 1

And this is what I ended up wearing to the party Alex and I attended last night.

Maybe I'll try and fix the Alice Costume or I might just start again and draft my own pattern.

Spidie Garlic Bread

002

I saw this at my local bakery today and could not resist.

Alex wondered what I was going to do with spider shaped bread.

I decided that it would make fun garlic bread.

Stranger

So, I woke up this morning to the most frightening thing that has ever happened to me.

Let's back track a little.

Alex and I have been living in this Northern California College town for a little over three years now. This town has a reputation for being a party place. The place we live is off the beaten path, and should have been far enough away from the parting.

For the most part we know our neighbors and they know us. Recently, however we have had a few neighbor change overs and thus new people in our little hideaway. This may having nothing to do with the incident that I'm about to divulge, but I feel it may have played a role.

On to the incident.

I woke up and Zoey was acting a little strange for the morning. Usually she sleeps until we start to stir, but this morning she was running around the bedroom. I thought nothing of it. She is a strange cat. It was almost time for Alex to get up to head to work so I thought I'd get up first so that I could use the bathroom before he took over.

I got out of the bed.

Put my glasses on.

And walked to the doorway between the living room and bedroom.

Then I noticed that the living room was in shambles.

First thought: "what have the cats been doing in here?"

The Rock Band Drums were toppled over and the sheet that had been drying on it was spread across the floor.

That is when I see the shoes.

And not only shoes, but feet inside shoes.

That is when I realize there is a person under the sheet.

What?

There was no extra person in my house when I went to bed last night.

"Alex, is there supposed to be someone on our livingroom floor?"

"What? No."

"Well there is someone."

So, He jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes. Picked up a wooden sword that we have. Poked the guy. The guy did not move.

So I called 911.

While I was on the phone with 911, the guy roused himself and left.

The police came, found the guy and the guy

He said he was confused because he'd been parting with us at out house the night before.

I think I would have remembered a party at my house.

And really, I would not have made filet mignon for a drunken party.

I'm just very confused. And it freaked me out. So Steph from Hope Sewing is Genetic came and spent the day with me.

We had a lovely breakfast:

Then we went to JoAnn's. The first Trip I picked up some Halloween Baking supplies.

003

The next trip, I got some fabric for a couple of new projects.

006

I think these are all going to aprons. I'm really obsessed with those right now. I just want to keep making more and more.

005

And well I don't have Halloween one yet.
The Dia de los Muerto's Skulls will go very nicely with the orange polka dots and the plain orange for a reversible apron.

004

Alex's has been saying that the parties have been creeping ever closer.

So today's lesson. Triple make sure your door is locked before you go to bed.

Also I think it's time to move.

Until then I'm going to rearrange my living room.

Halloween Quilt

halloween 3

The Halloween Quilt is done except for the Quilting. That is all that is left.

Hubby was so excited he wanted to use it right now. However I don't want him to get it dirty until it's all done.

I'm feeling hopeful this week. I hope it holds out.

All the great things in this world are around this time of year.

Including:

Jamba: Pumpkin Smash.

Red and Yellow Leaves

Cold crisp air

Rainy afternoons

Pumpkin Pie

And Kitties with thick fur...

Lots of Blacks and Oranges and some Purple.

"Halloween"

halloween1

Halloween is up and I just feel like what is the point.

In years past I've felt that even if no one sees the decorations they still give me pleasure.

But this year... No pleasure... Just annoyance at myself for continuing a ritual.

But I have to do it, if I don't then I have to admit to myself that things are different. That things are not as they should be. That I'm sinking down into the dark pit of despair. I'm trying to fight it. But the more I fight the worse it gets. Maybe I should just lay down and give up.

But the lights look so very nice. Zoey likes to pull down the garland from around the doors. Mamasita is our good kitty, she doesn't take down the decorations (except Christmas ornament balls). She does like to take her toys out and leave them all over the house.

Day One: Research

I'm going to set out on a project.

For Halloween I will be making myself a Mother Confessor costume.

Several things need to happen in the next few months for this to be a reality.

But today, I'm deeming day one.

Even though in reality I started down this path a little over a week ago. However, that is another story all together.

Day one is research.

This first image is the under clothing.

These underthings are a corset and skirt which are warn beneath the following:

So the next step will be to purchase the patterns to aid in the making of these items. So until next time. Have a great day.
