"Queen of the Lightning" (Book Four)
Queen of the Lightning is a book published in 1983 in London. This book came to me via my mother-in-law. Along with a couple of others by the same author. When she gave them to me she said that they were "Bodice Rippers". They had some sex in them, but what book doesn't these days? The sex was kept to a minimum and was not explicit in its details.
I was not disapointed in this book, even though it lacked that romance novel qulaity. I'm a huge sucker for historical fiction. This book most definitely qualified for that. The author weaves a compelling tale about a woman born into a royal house. As the story begins she falls in love with the man she thinks she is going to be wed to. Then tragedy stricks and her brother, the last living heir to the kingdom, is killed. Her great Uncle is dying and rushes to marry her off to a neighboring kingdom to secure their borders.
Needless to say the man who she was going to originally marry, follows her to the brink, causing havoc and war along the way. In the end she chooses the man she is married to. Even though they come across as being in the relationship just because it is best for their countries, every now and then you realize that they love each other.
The second book, takes up the story with her daughter, which was begot by the enemy when she was raped and taken capture. Her husband choose not to kill the baby of this other man because she was not a son.
As always, I appreciate your comments or book recommendations. ~Dianna
